As a resident of the largest retirement community in the country, I’m writing out of deep concern and frustration over what’s unfolding in our local health care system. Our Villages Health System currently has more than 60,00 patients and continues to grow.
We entrusted our care and confidence to The Villages Health system only to find that the Developer has been accused of Medicare fraud, yes Medicare FRAUD and now we’re being handed last-minute information about an attempted sale of the entire health care division which is currently being opposed firmly by United Healthcare.
$330+ million is a lot of money to just disappear. How can that amount go unaccounted for, with no public explanation and no one taking responsibility?
We, the residents, have every right to ask:
• Who was in charge of paying the fraud-related bills?
• Why weren’t the financial records made public?
• Who was the CFO?
• Why has no one—not one person—been held accountable?
To make matters worse, Humana is attempting to lure away our trusted physicians, while UnitedHealthcare appears to be reacting very aggressively. Once again, the people left to deal with the consequences are us the very residents who help make this community thrive.
We’re not just policy numbers or voting blocks. We are seniors, veterans, caregivers, and taxpayers. We are The Villages, and we deserve to be treated with honesty and respect.
This situation must be addressed openly and thoroughly $330+ million doesn’t just vanish. We want transparency. We need answers. We expect action.
