In response to growing concerns over cyber fraud originating from call centers, the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications has officially taken notice of the issue and announced measures to investigate and address it.
The committee, headed by Senator Palwasha Khan, will convene tomorrow morning at Parliament House, where key stakeholders have been summoned to present information on the scale and response to cybercrime linked to call centers. The committee has summoned officials from the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) to the next session.
Authorities are expected to provide a comprehensive briefing on all registered call centers and software houses operating in Pakistan, along with the existing mechanisms for their oversight. Details of actions taken so far against individuals or entities involved in cyber fraud will also be reviewed.
The committee has requested a forward-looking briefing on strategies to protect millions of Pakistani consumers from future cyber threats, particularly those exploiting digital communication platforms like call centers.
This comes amid rising reports of scams and phishing attacks, with many users alleging fraudulent calls from numbers posing as banks, government institutions, or digital service providers.
